Deer Sparring Near Dublin For Rutting Season

Rutting season has started for deer across Ireland, which is as good an opportunity as any to venture out into the great outdoors and witness this incredible spectacle! Plus with the weather looking half decent, it should be a fine couple of days for it too.

Seriously though, don’t venture too close if you are heading somewhere to have a look or get a few photos. Most people haven’t got a clue that this is going on, and plenty of people have ended up injured while trying to feed deer during this season. The OPW recommends people keep 50 metres away.

And well done to Mayo County Council on their DeerAware campaign, because nobody wants to kill Bambi!

Killarney National Park

Although you do need to be cautious, don’t let this leave you afraid of deer in general. They’re usually all pretty chill, like this guy…
